The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the list of commissioner nominees sent to it for confirmation by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The governor had sent a 31-man list of commissioners designate, but at yesterday’s sitting the House confirmed 29.
The confirmation of the commissioners designate followed a unanimous vote by the state lawmakers.
Those confirmed include Hon. Boma Iyaye,Hon Okey Amadi, Hon George Tolofari, Hon Marcus Nle Eji and Hon Augustine Nwokocha.
Others were Hon Leyi Kwanee, Sam Etetewung, Robert Elleh, Dr. Doris Fisher, Mrs. Vivian Braide, Mr. Bestman Nwoka as well Mr.Ezekiel Ezemonye Amadi.
Also confirmed were Mr. George Weli, Joe Poroma, Mr. Augustine Ngo, Hon. Felix Nweke, Marshall Uwom and Mr. Emma Chinda. Others include, Prof. Israel Owate, Nwankwo Nwankwo, Mr. Kingsley Chinda, Mr Ogbonna Nwuke, Chief Ibiamu Ikanga and Mr Osima Gina.
Also in the list of confirmed commissioners designate were Mr. Kurotamunoye A. Briggs, Baton Mitee, Mr. Alice Nemi as well as Eldred Braide.
However, Mr. Nyema Weli and Dr. Ijeomah Esumei were not confirmed. Mr. Wali was asked to provide his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the House before his nomination could be confirmed, while Dr. Esumei did not turn up for the screening exercise.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has also approved Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s request to appoint 15 special advisers for effective administration of the state
The approval also followed a unanimous vote by the state lawmakers.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry who presided at the sitting said Governor Amaechi had written to the House in accordance with Section 192 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
