The Rivers State House of Assembly has adjourned legislative sitting for two weeks.
The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Tonye Harry announced this after the passage of the 2008 State Appropriation Bill.
Hon Harry said that the House adjourned for the two weeks to enable the lawamkers attend a workshop and seminar on capacity building in Lagos State.
He said that the workshop would expose the lawmakers to legislative discussion as well as leadership capacity building.
The Speaker used the opportunity to thank members of the state legislature for their efforts in ensuring that harmony and peace reigned during the legislative period.
He thanked them for their support, commitment and dedication during the debate on the 2008 state budget which led to the quick passage of the bill.
The number one state lawmaker thanked the Governor of the state, Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his support to the legislative arm, noting that such gestures have impacted positively to the success of the Assembly.
The Speaker pledged the continued support of the Assembly to the executive arm for a successful administration in the state while stating that the cordial relationship between the two arms would not be compromised, he added.
The House within the period passed into law, the Rivers State Sustainable Development Amendment Bill, the 2008 State Road Maintenance Agency Bill, the Due Process and Public Procurement Bill 2008 as well as the state 2008 Compulsory Saving Bill.
The state lawmakers also screened and confirmed 29 commissioners, approved 15 special advisers sent to it by Governor Amaechi as well as the extension of tenure for the Caretaker Committee members (CTC) of the various local government councils in the state.
