The Rivers State Government yesterday said it had nothing to do with the changes carried out in the leadership of the state legislature.
The lawmakers at their sitting on June 9, changed some principal officers of the House with the exception of the speaker, citing incompetence as the reason.
The affected officers have, however, said the changes were illegal and unconstitutional.
Mr Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, the former deputy leader of the House, alleged that the executive was responsible for his removal because he opposed the governor.
Mr Ogbonna Nwuke, the commissioner for information, told News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) correspondent in Port Harcourt yesterday that the government had nothing to do with the changes.
“We have nothing to do with it. What happened is an internal matter of the House. We think that those linking the governor to the crisis have misplaced views,” he explained.
‘’The issue is very clear - that the House leadership as it then was, did not pose any threat to the government of Rivers.
“If we all still have our minds properly attuned, we will all realise that there was nothing the government asked for from that House, that it did not get,’’ he added.
Nwuke stated that, “government has no reason to change the leadership or to support any move to do so”.
