Rivers gov credits success to support of legislature

The Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says the success of his government within the 356days in office is attributed to the good support enjoyed from the state legislature.

Governor Amaechi stated this yesterday during an interactive session with members of the state legislature, former lawmakers and staff of the state House of Assembly to mark the one-year anniversary of his present administration.

Amaechi presided over the House for eight years from where he launched himself into the chief executive position in the state.

Governor Amaechi explained that the aim of the interactive session was not to woo the lawmakers but to thank them for the support and corporation they have given to his administration within the one year in office.

He described the legislature as a most superior arm of the government, adding that his visit was to re-affirm his loyalty to them.

He, therefore, called for the lawmakers’ continuous support to the executive arm in his quest to fast-track development of the state.

According to him, a committee of professionals including members of the state legislature would be constituted to articulate various aspects of the budget proposal before it will be presented to the House for consideration and passage.

He explained that the idea was to formulate a comprehensive budget that would last for a long time as well as capture all the desired developmental aspirations of the state.

The state governor, however, called on the people of the state to give the administration time to function, adding that the government was not unware of the urgent development needs of the state.

He thanked the state lawmakers for the honour given him to address the House while promising that the executive arm would not interfere in the activities of the legislature.

In his response, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Tonye Harry, who welcomed Governor Amaechi and his entourage to the Assembly’s hallow chambers, said that the legislature was elated by the developmental strides of the present leadership in the state.

He assured the governor of the lawmakers’ support to always partner with the executive to ensure that democracy dividends were delivered to Rivers people.
