The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor-ship candidate for Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has advised people of the state against complacency in the forth-coming elections to usher in a new democratic dispensation in the country.
Hon Amaechi, who is also the speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly was speaking at the quarterly meeting of the Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention at Agba Ndele in Emohua local government area.
He advised his kinsmen to suppress their excitement over his election as the PDP flag-bearer in the state and ensure hundred per cent registration of eligible voters in the four Ikwerre-speaking local government areas of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emohua and Ikwerre.
Hon Amaechi, whose convoy was greeted by dances and cannon shots by jubilant indigenes of the area along the route to the Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, expressed optimism that with adequate voters\' registration at the polls, the PDP would have no problems in winning the governorship and other elections in the state.
He thanked the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre for consolidating an already existing bridges of friendship with other ethnic groups in the state, and promised to convey the request of the people of Agba-Ndele for road and electricity, and other social amenities to Governor Peter Odili for immediate attention.
Speaking earlier at the occasion, the President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, Professor Otonti Nduka thanked the Rivers State governor, and the leadership and members of the PDP for keeping their promise of giving a trusted Ikwerre son the opportunity to fly the flag of the party in this year’s governorship election.
Professor Nduka informed the governorship candidate that the Ikwerre leadership was in touch with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that every eligible voter in the area was registered.
The convention was attended by the Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine, Chief I. H. Ajuru, Chief Andrew Uchendu and Ike Chinwo of the House of Representatives as well as the chairman of Emohua and Obio/Akpor local government areas.
