RSG LAUDS ASSEMBLY FOR PASSING SUSTAINABLE DEVT. BILL The Rivers State Executive Council has lauded law makers in the state for the timely passage of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Programme (RSSDP) bill into law. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Magnus Abe, who made this known today while briefing Government House correspondents after the State Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt, said the gesture by the State Legislatures would bring lasting changes to the life of the people of the state. The State Executive Council, according to Mr. Abe also commended the Ministry of Justice and the people of the state for their roles in ensuring the passage of the bill into law. Mr. Abe affirmed that with the development, a certain percentage of the State Budget would be dedicated to the State Sustainable Development Programme, noting that the impact of the law on the people would be substantial, and remain one of the lasting legacies of the present administration. The Information Commissioner announced that the Executive Council also approved the setting up of a committee to assess the extent of work so far done at the state University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. He said the Committee headed by the Commissioner for Environment Dr. Roselyn Konya, with those of Finance, Information, Transport, and Commerce Commissioners as members, is expected to report back to council tomorrow. Mr. Abe who disclosed that the measure was taken in view of the huge investment made by the present administration in the institution said, government was desirous of ensuring that its dreams for higher education in the state were realizable. The Information boss also disclosed that council also approved the establishment of three model junior secondary schools in the state, apart from the two already built in Port Harcourt, pointing out that the new ones would be located in each of the three senatorial districts of the state. Mr. Abe disclosed that the state Judiciary Complex has been completed and would soon be commissioned, while the ministry of Transport was directed to liaise with the contractor handling the Iriebe Trailer Park project, to ensure completion as soon as possible, to reduce traffic congestion in the city of Port Harcourt. Exco, Mr. Abe said, congratulated Dolphins Football club of Port Harcourt on their steady progress in their continental championship as they defeated their opponent by two goals to one, in faraway Togo and urged them to sustain the tempo.
