The Rivers State House of Assembly, yesterday, reconvened after the nationwide general election.
During the session presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon Tonye Harry, the House screened and unanimously approved the appointment of Hon Magnus Ngei Abe to serve as a commissioner in the Judicial Service Commission.
Hon Abe is the state commissioner for information and a former member of the state House of Assembly.
Other nominees include, Joy Oguzor, who is also expected to serve in the commission.
Also, the bill seeking to amend public and political office holders’ salaries, allowances and fringe benefits, received its first reading.
The bill was presented by the leader of the House Hon Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja.
In his ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Tonye Harry while committing the bill to the committee on finance for scrutiny, urged members to report back on Monday with their recommendations.
Also, the bill, which provides for the sustainable development programme in the state was committed to the committee on environment headed by Iboroma Kitchner.
