Legislative session at the Rivers State House of Assembly expected to continue last Wednesday as rescheduled to enable members attend to urgent matters in their constituencies.
The House had at its last session mandated the speaker Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry to bring to the floor of the House a report on the five (5) screened Rivers Assembly Service Commission nominees for ratification and approval by the committee of the whole House.
A source close to the House of Assembly told The Tide on Sunday that the inability of the House to sit may not be unconnected with the curfew imposed in the state.
However, the source said the lull of activities at the Assembly is to enable honourable members travel to the constituencies to sue for peace.
The source further stated that it was not mandatory that the House should sit everyday, but to ensure that members comply with the 181 days for sitting, as stipulated in the constitution.
It would be recalled that the Assembly had on Monday last week under review, screened Assembly service commission nominees forwarded to it by the state executive governor Sir, Celestine Omehia, as part of effort to build a purposeful legislative Assembly.
Those screened were Hon Elechi Dike, chairman, Chief Nwachukwu Goodhead Nkemakolom and Dr Ernest Karibo as members. Others are Dr Enemie Maxwell and Mr Legbor Kuku as members.
