RVHA adopts committee’s report

The Rivers State House of Assembly has adopted the adhoc committee report constituted by it to look into the causes of de-registration of 128 students of Marketing Department in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt.

Presenting the report at the floor of the House Friday, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kamalu Isaac representing Eleme constituency in the State Assembly said that the committee sat for three days in other to meet up the deadline.

He said the committee invited all the stakeholders in the matter with the view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.

The chairman stated that the committee confined itself with the terms of reference given them by the House.

He submitted among other things that the university authority has accepted to revisit the senate decision concerning the September, 2007 registration with the view to finding solution to the matter.

The chairman further submitted that the university has also accepted to allow the students sit for the forthcoming semester exam while the affected students will pay the sum of One Thousand Naira as fee for late registration.

However, virtually all the members who spoke commended the committee for a work well done but worried or queried with the fine of One Thousand Naira option imposed on the students.

They were of the opinion that the inability of the students not to register on time was a result of the malfunction of the electronic system introduced by the university authority.

In his ruling, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, who presided commended the committee for living up to expectation, noting that part from one or two short falls the committee did a thorough job and described them as the best since the inception of the present Legislative Assembly.

It will be recalled that the House set up the committee follows a motion of public importance brought at the floor of the House last week by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Charles Nwile on the de-registration of 128 Marketing Students in RSUST.
