The Rivers State House of Assembly would soon be a thing of the past, as the House is set to announce the membership of staing committees.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry who disclosed this during the second preliminary sitting of the House for 2008 session, stated that the measure will tackle some of the problems being experienced in the process of governance n the state.
“When we constitute our standing committees most of the problems will be over soon” he said, noting that the constitution of the committee will promote effectiveness and vibrancy in the House.
Since after the inauguration of the House on the 30th May 2007, by the erstwhile governor Celestine Omehia, it has inaugurated only two standing Committees, to include, information, training and House Services Committee.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry has assured that the legislators and poised this year to provide a change in the political engineering of the state House of Assembly.
