RIVERS ASSEMBLY SEEKS AUTONOMY FOR SCHOOLS

Rivers Assembly seeks autonomy for schools

Rivers State House of Assembly is working on a bill to separate the School of Nursing and Midwifery from the present College of Health Science and Technology.

A member of the House, Mrs Irene Inimgba on Tuesday moved a motion to that effect as she sought the amendment of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology Law.

She said that the amendment would separate the School of Nursing and Midwifery to give both schools autonomy to operate.

For that, Speaker Tony Harry directed the Clerk of the House Alex Nwala to furnish members with copies of the principal law before the second reading of the bill.

He announced that Governor Chibuike Amaechi would address and present some bills to the Rivers State House of Assembly today.

Harry urged members to turn up at 10 a. m. prompt today to receive the governor.

He also reminded them of the House’s resolve to encourage members to engage in various sporting activities every month, and presented souvenirs to winners of the December 2007 competition.
